I want to buy item from ebay (Buy it now) and i won’t allow me as after the final page (the page that you confirm and pay with paypal) this message come up:  Error code: 70226:

To ensure that eBay remains a safe marketplace, we limit the quantity of items that can be bought or sold by a single account at one time. These limits may change over time and are determined by your previous site activity and overall performance.

Currently, your account has reached the limit for bidding and buying, but you can increase this limit by providing additional verification. Thank you for your understanding.

Please follow the directions below to continue.

*i am new to ebay and paypal (just created both of them few days ago at the same time).

*i never bought an item before (i did once, but with my friend’s account)

*i verified my paypal account (as the 1.95$ is my paypal account right now)

*i think i provided all my account information ( perhaps i miss something?)

*i linked my ebay to my paypal. (as this is what it says in my account settings “Your eBay account is linked with your Paypal account: ….[email protected])

*the seller does ship the item to my adress country.

*my paypal account is premier (well i think it is kinda different with personal isn’t it)

*in my profile “Log In with PayPal Websites where I’ve logged in with PayPal” section, ebay is not in there although i successfully linked it as it says in ebay.com and i succesfully log in the last page of my transaction (i think this is the problem, paypal is not detecting my account, isn’t it?)

Another question:

i used to have both accounts 10+ years ago. now that i started new accounts nothing is working..  the new accounts will not allow me to purchase anything at all not even 1 item.. getting to the point where i want to revoke both accounts…

Answer for ebay error message Error code: 70226

  1. Ebay is just protecting your account from thieves. If your account has been dormant for quite awhile, those are the ones that commonly get hijacked and used by scam artists.By more verification, they are asking for a bank account or a credit card downloaded on the EBAY account (it will never be used unless you sell and use it to pay seller fees).

From ebay help:

Occasionally, we need to place limits on buying activity.

Why does eBay limit buying activity?

We might limit a member’s buying activity if we notice a change in their buying activity. For example:

  • We notice a sudden, large increase in the amount of items a member is buying

  • We notice a sudden, large increase in the price of the items a member is buying

  • We notice a new buyer is making many purchases or purchasing expensive items

These limits are similar to the limit a credit card company might place on your card if they notice an unusual increase in activity. Not only does it protect you, it protects our sellers and eBay. Also, buyer activity limits are one way that we reduce the chance of unpaid items. Buyer activity limits are based on statistical information, and they are put in place to protect everyone. They aren’t meant to penalize you, or reflect on how trustworthy you are. They’re also not based on your bank account balance, your credit card limit, or your ability to pay for items purchased.

Note: These limits are placed by eBay, not by individual sellers. We can’t remove these limits, even if a seller requests it.

How can I remove these limits?

We’ll remove buyer activity limits once we see that the buyer’s purchases are legitimate and are being completed successfully. One way we see this is through Feedback. If you’re a new buyer, you may see your limit removed as your Feedback score increases.

We’re also more likely to remove these limits for a buyer who verifies his or her identity. There are a few ways to do this:

  • Register for PayPal

  • Place a credit card on file

Note: Not all members will have these options available, and they don’t automatically remove buyer limits.

What are the rules for bidding $15,000 or more?

To place a bid of $15,000 or more, you need to provide a valid credit card (your card won’t be charged). This requirement helps make sure that members making large purchases are of legal age and serious about completing the transaction.

Note: For bids on eBay Motors, you’ll need to provide a valid credit card toplace bids of $25,000 or more.

You need to provide this information only once. We encourage you to take these steps before bidding on an item that might go above this price.

Hope these answer was help! Please comment if you got any more questions

  1. I have not purchased anything from ebay before and only wanted to spend less than $500 NZ but still denied ability to pay when trying to complete purchase….annoyed

  2. I have not duplicated comment (first time I’ve made enquiry) a reasonable reply and answer to enquiry would be helpful.
    cheers
