I used BookRenter (bookrenter.com) recently. The book cost aproximatly $17.25 give/take for tax. It said the order was processed and I thought nothing more of it after that.
The next day I got a text message from my bank (Chase, debit account) telling me that I was overdrawn on my account by about $6. I realized I had forgotten to make a deposit the day before and did that right then. After, I looked on my Chase account. It showed that I was charged $34 for an insufficent funds fee like this:
INSUFFICIENT FUNDS FEE FOR A $17.25 ITEM – DETAILS: PAYPAL INST XFER BOOKRENTER WEB ID: PAYPAL——
I figured my temporary overdraw would be handled exclusevly by Chase like it was the last time I had forgotten to make a deposit. The last time I did this it was on Amazon. Amazon never charged me over, Chase just sent me a notice saying I was overdrawn and had to make a deposit before they fined me. So I did and that was that.
I’ve never read anywhere of Paypal overcharging for something like this. The shipping on BookRenter was free and it was state-to-state delivery, so there was no international currency. I’m concerned because Paypal themselves sent me the fee without notification from my bank. Even on my past buys list on my Paypal account, the fee does not exist, It only shows on my bak account.
